DeWalt DW745 Review
Now the DeWalt DW745 has been a solid performer for good few years now. A great deal of wood workers who have needed a good reliable portable table saw have had great things to say about this machine. But this is what we have come to expect from a company like DeWalt, who have been supplying quality tools professional and hobbyist wood workers alike.
Now the DW745 has only recently been upgraded in DeWalt’s table saw range to the DWE7480. But the DW745 is still widely available and there are some great deals to be had out there. So let’s have a look at what this saw has to offer.

Size/weight
DeWalt have done a great job of creating a light weight saw here, at only 45lbs, this can easily be moved from site to site. You can either fit it to a safe, secure surface or use it with DeWalt’s portable table saw stand. The DW7450.This will only add another 14lbs of weight for you to carry around. With a maximum depth cut of 3-1/8” at 90 degrees and 2-1/4” at 45 degrees. That pretty much standard stuff for 10 inch table saws.
Now it’s worth noting that the max rip to the right of the blade on this saw is 20”. This means that you won’t be able to rip full size sheet materials in half. If working with sheet materials is high on your list of requirements then you may want to look at a saw that has larger rip capacity, you’ll need a minimum of 24” to rip a full size sheet of ply in half.
Power
The DeWalt DW745 uses a 15 amp direct drive brush motor, which is pretty standard stuff for a small, portable table saw. Although noisy, they are a lot lighter making them better to move around. Now the DW745 runs at 3850 rpm under no load. This seems to be slower and with more torque, which is better than other portable table saws that tend to run around the 4000-5000rpm range.
Fence & Miter
Now the fence on this saw is very good and sturdy, but is has been noted with other users of the saw can move out of alignment. Now it is common with a lot of tools that you will have to make fine adjustments and the DW745 comes with the ability to make these fine adjustments so that you can set the saw up perfectly. It’s worth spending the time to make sure that the fence stays square and true through the range of movement.
The saw comes with a standard size miter gauge, so an easy upgrade if you want to.
Other Considerations
It’s worth noting that you cannot use a dado set with this tool, so if this is a requirement for you it may be worth discounting this saw. Also the blade that comes with the saw, would be the first thing that I would replace, This is a shame as DeWalt produces some great quality blades, so I can’t imagine that it would cost much to them to include a decent one.
Here is a great video review of the DeWalt DW745
Great contractors saw: square to table, bevel right on settings, easy to set up and move around, and the fence setting holds its alignment very we saving lots of time. For a low quality blade, it isn’t bad. A replacement with narrow kerf would improve it. Be sure to wear ear protection. I bought it with a $70 off sale.
They’re a great saw and you can get them for a great price. Great job with the $70 off
